≈190 km round trip · about 3.5 hrs driving. The single most popular history day trip from Fes and our best-value route — three sites in one shared group day: the imperial city of Meknes, the exceptionally preserved Roman ruins at Volubilis, and the hillside holy town of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun.
Because all three stops sit close together, this is also our shortest full-day route from Fes — a lower price for a route packed with history, including Volubilis's remarkably intact 2,000-year-old floor mosaics.

Fes → Ifrane → Azrou Cedar Forest → Barbary Macaques → Fes
≈145 km round trip · about 2.5 hrs driving. Nicknamed the "Switzerland of Morocco," Ifrane is a world away from the Fes medina — sloped roofs, pine-lined streets, and cool mountain air year-round. The route continues into the Middle Atlas cedar forests near Azrou, home to wild Barbary macaques.
A shorter, lower-cost route than our other Fes day trips, and an easy pick for nature lovers or anyone wanting a change of scenery from the imperial cities.

Fes → Bhalil Cave Houses → Sefrou Old Town → Fes
≈65 km round trip · about 1.5 hrs driving. Our cheapest and most local day trip. Bhalil is known for its troglodyte cave houses, some still inhabited today, while Sefrou is a relaxed former capital famous for cherry orchards, pottery, and a walled medina that feels like a smaller, quieter Fes.
At roughly 3.5 hours round trip, this is a great budget add-on alongside a longer day trip or a few days exploring the Fes medina — it wraps up around lunchtime.

Chefchaouen is our most popular, but if you're short on time or budget, Sefrou & Bhalil or Meknes, Volubilis & Moulay Idriss are shorter and cheaper without sacrificing much.
